Guatemala

This campaign focused on indigenous rights in Guatemala, following the genocide against the Mayan population.

We put on a film screening of Pamela Yates’: ‘Granito: How to Nail a Dictator’ – which focuses on recent efforts to bring ex-Guatemalan dictator Rios-Montt to trial for crimes against humanity – followed by a highly informative Q&A session with the founder of Recovery Action (An Edinburgh-based volunteering organisation working on the issue) and AIUK’s country coordinator for Guatemala.

Our film screening event also got some press – check out The Journal’s article here: http://www.journal-online.co.uk/article/11242-amnesty_international_showcases_granito_how_nail_dictator

We also organised a solidarity action and sent signed Scottish and Guatemalan flags to Claudia Paz y Paz, the attorney general of Guatemala who has been working hard on achieving justice for the victims of the genocide.
